SCF Meeting in Assynt gives birth to Young Crofters movement

A gathering of young crofters organised by the Scottish Crofting Federation in Assynt last weekend (19th-21st March) attracted more than 90 attendees and has led to the formation of a group to take forward some of the ideas and proposals raised by young people at the meeting.
The event, called ‘Young Crofters 20:20’ and held at the Assynt Foundation community owned Glencanisp Lodge near Lochinver, was organised by the Scottish Crofting Federation, in collaboration with Crofting Connections, SCF's training program and Hungry for Rights project. It was in response to requests by young and aspiring crofters for the chance to meet with their peers and share their hopes, plans and ideas. These young people also asked for the chance to spend time with crofting elders and to learn from them about some of the skills and knowledge they will need for a life in crofting.
