About SCF

Scottish Crofting Federation is dedicated to campaigning for crofters and fighting for the future of crofting.

Our Mission

Our mission is to safeguard and promote the rights, livelihoods and culture of crofters and their communities.

SCF’s mission is also to preserve and develop crofting through advocacy, training, representation and support, while encouraging diversity through new young entrants to crofting.

We can only do this if crofters and those interested in crofting and the Scottish Highlands and Islands join us to give their support.

What we do

Led by our members, SCF engages with agencies and government at local, national and international levels to affect policy on rural development. We are Scotland’s largest association of small-scale food producers.

Crofting sustains marginal and fragile rural populations and the cultural heritage and social economy of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Crofting helps retain the indigenous population of small-scale food producers. This type of land-based culture is advocated internationally as the sustainable way to produce the world’s food, while supporting a wide variety of wildlife habitats, protecting endangered native species.
