SCF criticises “lamentable” Government ferry review

The Scottish Crofting Federation has said that the Scottish Government’s ferry review displays a “lamentable lack of understanding of the geography” of the west Highlands and Islands and promises to deliver blow after economic blow to the future viability of some of the area’s most fragile communities.

Commenting on the proposed diminution of ferry services in west Lochaber, the Scottish Crofting Federation believes that the general thrust of the review appears to be one of withdrawing and diminishing routes in peripheral areas at a moment when island and some remote mainland communities finally have the opportunity to benefit from the introduction of Road Equivalent Tariff.
