Scottish Crofting Federation has responded to the Scottish Government’s recent agricultural budget announcements.
While SCF broadly welcomes commitments to capital funding for small producers and continued support for schemes such as the Sea Eagle Management Scheme, we have serious concerns about cuts to the Croft House Grant Scheme and the absence of any firm financial commitment to local goose management.
The statement also highlights the urgent impact of increasing greylag goose numbers on traditional machair cropping systems, and the wider implications this has for food production, biodiversity, and the long-term viability of crofting communities.
