Meeting on the Isle of Skye to learn about ‘Peoples of the Land and Sea’

Next week people on the Isle of Skye will have a chance to learn about the ways of life of some of the island peoples of the South Pacific and about how indigenous culture is helping them to meet social and ecological challenges they face today.
Maria Latumahina who is from West Papua and Melissa Sinclair whose father’s family is Scottish and whose mother’s people belong to the Kingdom of Tonga will be visiting Skye as part of a study trip to areas where there is movement towards the community ownership of land or where there are other land rights issues.
The Young Crofters Revolution - Vote Now

The Scottish Crofting Federation are asking members of the public to sign up for a revolution by voting for a Young Crofters initiative they have lodged with the Co-operative movement. When the Co-op was formed in 1844 its democratic principles marked a revolution in business practices.
Now, drawing on their own history, the Co-operative movement are seeking to empower other public spirited groups with a one off grant of £5000. To win the money the group needs to make a case for the revolutionary principles of its project.

Wildfires Prompt Appeal By Crofters

A spate of devastating wildfires in the west Highlands during the last two weeks gives added urgency to the need to transform agricultural support systems, the Scottish Crofting Federation have claimed.
