Young crofters add their voice to the Federation

A group of young crofters are set to form a branch of the Scottish Crofting Federation (SCF) in order to bring a younger perspective to the SCF and to crofting advocacy work.

One of the outcomes of the recent gathering in Assynt ‘Young Crofters 20:20’ was young crofters signing up to the idea of forming a group. A meeting in Inverness at the end of last week confirmed this and the meeting voted unanimously to accept the invitation to form a branch of the SCF.

Crofting Federation ‘cautious welcome’ for new sea eagle scheme

Scottish Crofting Federation (SCF) has given a cautious welcome to the Scottish Government’s new sea eagle management scheme. The scheme will run for three years and will investigate all issues involving sea eagle impacts on livestock. Local stakeholder groups across the range of the species, including SCF representatives, will oversee and monitor the working of the scheme; and contractors employed by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) will assist crofters and farmers experiencing predation problems with sea eagles.
