The Scottish Government, in partnership with the Scottish National Rural Network, is inviting people to have their say on an important policy shaping consultation paper called “Speak Up For Rural Scotland”. Special discussion events are being held in four locations across rural Scotland to give local people the chance to provide a collaborative response to this consultation.

The proposals for change contained in this paper, available online at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/speakup, were put forward by the Rural Development Council. They cover a range of issues which impact on rural areas and contribute to Scotland’s sustainable economic growth. The Scottish Government wants to know what people in rural Scotland think about the proposals, and this event will offer local people the chance to discuss and feedback to the Scottish Government their collective views on the issues that matter to them most.

Norman MacAskill, Head of Rural Policy at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) is chairing the event, and is keen to get people involved. He said:

“Rural Scotland is so diverse, so it’s really important that this is reflected in what the Scottish Government hears. I would encourage anyone interested in any aspect of life in rural Scotland to have a look at the paper and to come along and tell us what they think. It promises to be a really interesting evening of discussion.”

Places are limited so anyone wishing to attend will need to book their place. For further details email Matt Tyrer (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)), or call 01463 251727. If you would like to submit your own response to this paper you can do so until 25th October. Visit http://www.scotland.gov.uk/speakup for more details.
